Nustar Technologies is pleased and honoured to have the opportunity to be part of Jamstec’s recent successful scientific ocean expedition (#Exp386). This expedition, supported by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (Jamstec), was to gain insights into the seismic history of the study region off the Japanese coast, The record coring was conducted at a water depth of 8,023m (26,322ft) on Friday, 14 May 2021.

Nustar Technologies contributed to this expedition with a newly developed and improved version of the existing operating equipment. The bottom assembly of the penetration string was specially designed with, patent pending, precisely slit slots on the penetration bit and the couplers. It was also specially coated with a lubricant based constituent to reduce friction against the sediments and as well as to reduce the pull out tension for recovering the assembly back to surface. The enhancements on the equipment, enabled the expedition to achieve 100% core sample recovery with varying lengths from 20m to 40m.
